About the Author
BENJAMIN REID PHILLIPS has been teaching drawing, storyboarding, and sequential art courses at SCAD since 2004. He is also a sequential artist and illustrator whose work has been featured in the Cartoon Art Museum's Monsters of Webcomics series. He won the Georgia College Press Association's Best Editorial Feature for his District serial, Dr. Dead. Phillips has also worked on Devil's Due comic edition of FOX's hit TV series, Family Guy.
DAVID HARLAND ROUSSEAU has taught drawing and design courses at SCAD since 2005. He is an entrepreneur, author, award-winning illustrator, graphic designer, actor, and former video journalist and news reporter. In 2008, he was named to the Business Report and Journal's "40 Under 40" list, and is the recipient of a Silver ADDY Award. He has also written Savannah Tavern Tales and Pub Review and Savannah Ghosts: Haunts of the Hostess City, illustrated by Julie Collins.

Regardless of genre or discipline, storyboards share a language that reflects the jargon and terminology employed by industries born out of the filmed visual narrative. They connect written word to final cut; they concern themselves with what the camera “sees” (framing height, camera angle, and movement); they use standard and recognized formats (aspect ratios); and they even employ similar organizational systems (numbering). While the cinematographer relies on instinct and experience, a good storyboard artist will develop a strong understanding of camera angles and framing heights to help the director achieve his or her vision.

Decent to start, useless for professionals

I have a hard time being a fan of this book. I've got a half dozen books on storyboarding and I've found this to be one of the weaker ones. It certainly is a solid overview of the topic but for any aspiring professional artists looking to really grow their skillset, it's very lacking. Also really bugs me that they use weak student school projects as examples of how to create a professional storyboard. Comes off as very silly to me to use a student's work to try teaching aspiring/seasoned professionals. Another thing is, when it goes over "artists materials" it doesn't even touch on digital tools. 80% of artists in the industry work exclusively on digital tablets and all it does is talk about pencils and markers. Really needs an update. I'm a professional story artist myself and I was hoping for a fresh perspective and to get some insight from some amazing veteran artists. Certainly not the case with this read.

Framed Ink has taught me immensely about visual storytelling, Mark Simon's book covers the business aspect of the trade quite well. Just think there are many better options out there.

Wish I had this book 30 years Ago

Storyboarding is a must have skill today. This book is easy to understand and visually demonstrates the steps. Even if you are not an illustrator, and especially if you are not an illustrator, this book is invaluable. Whether producing a commercial or a short video, film or in house film. Just the logic and thought process, interpreting scripts and the planning skills you acquire are fantastic. Wish I had this book years ago.

This may sound like a minor complaint

I believe the second illustration of the "damsel" on page 100 is backwards! The text then goes on to boldly state that it does not violate the '180 degree rule', but it does! This may sound like a minor complaint, but if I hadn't studied film continuity 30 years ago in college, this error would have convinced me I wasn't understanding the concept. The woman appears to have turned around and is running TOWARDS THE CHAINSAW MURDERER! Two 'experts' wrote this book and neither one caught the error?

About the Author
John Galsworthy was a Nobel-Prize (1932) winning English dramatist, novelist, and poet born to an upper-middle class family in Surrey, England. He attended Harrow and trained as a barrister at New College, Oxford. Although called to the bar in 1890, rather than practise law, Galsworthy travelled extensively and began to write.

It was as a playwright Galsworthy had his first success. His playslike his most famous work, the series of novels comprising The Forsyte Sagadealt primarily with class and the social issues of the day, and he was especially harsh on the class from which he himself came.

Galsworthy is a wonderful writer. I am rating this edition which appears to have been printed from a Kindle file. There is no publisher, the page numbers are on bottom left of each page, the binding is cheap, there is no table of contents. The cover is attractive in order to sell the book on-line but this is not a published book, merely a print-out of text. Avoid this.

Dark and Deliciously Mean

I'm glad I found this book. The characters are flawed and unlikeable, but it is written in a way that you want to know what happens to them, whether they will get what they deserve. In a way, it read like a study for the Forsythe Saga. Similar character development.

excellent Galsworthy novel

An outstanding effort by Galsworthy. Quite different from the Forsyte series and other novels of his that I've read. A bit like Hardy's Well Beloved, but more realistic. The 3-episode format was very effective, with some sparkling moments in each part. The free Kindle edition is a good one.

'I' now have a better idea of SEO

Well written. I practically had no idea what was SEO, well I did think it had something to do with improving site ranking, but I didn't really have a 'good' or in depth understanding. From the intro of this book, I was hooked. What I mean is, now I really understand what this whole SEO thing is. The intro has been shortened (as mentioned in the book) to give a brief but also understandable definition of the terms and procedures in SEO.
Such as -
Hats - black, white grey
Off page and On page optimization

Plus there are a lot of details on how to 'improve' various aspects of the website to get maximum SEO, social media, writing content etc.
Then again, there is also a bad side to this, i.e. there is always a chance that the optimization for our website can fail due to certain reasons (which are defined clearly here)

This is a solid resource on SEO optimization!! I did a lot of research before finally settling on this book and It's thoroughly researched and well put together and the author makes complicated concepts easy to understanda and He also touches on advanced tactics so experienced readers will walk away with at least a handful of new tactics and does this while making it fun, it feels like you have a good friend explaining the whole process and I've seen lots of businesses do well with SEO and I've seen lots of businesses struggle because they don't understand SEO and neither does their SEO guy, so I think it's important to get the right knowledge and don't let this book get into the hands of your competitors so buy this book and grow your business to the next level.

Stunningly Brilliant

This is a work of such stunning brilliance that it has sent me out to look for the rest of Huggins' writing. He takes the few known facts about the battle between the Waldenses' and the Inquisition's determination to exterminate them and turns those facts into a novel of remarkable wisdom and insight. The Waldenses were Protestants marked for extermination by the Inquisition in 1655. Those Waldenses, unlucky enough to be living in relatively accessible country were massacred (about 6,000). The last refuge was a mountain valley of enormous difficulty to attack with only three easily defended points of access. About 150 men fought off 26,000 for weeks and cost the Piedmont Army about 12,000 casualties before being overrun. Even when their valley was overrun the remaining men hid in the caves of the mountains and continued the war.
The extraordinary military leader of this campaign was a mountain man named Joshua Gianavel. His wife and three daughters were burned at the stake when he refused to surrender (he and they would have been killed anyway if he had surrendered) and when he crossed the Alps to take his young son (the only surviving member of his family) to Geneva for safekeeping another 300 men volunteered to fight at his side. Ultimately they defeated the Piedmont Army in a campaign of extraordinary brilliance.
Huggins captures the essence of leadership. One follower observes: "In such a situation a man makes a decision by what he has brought to the battle, by what he decided within himself long before the first blow was thrown. Men do not become heroes in a war; they are heroes before a war. War is only the place where their heroism is easily seen." If you would care to understand how history can be made by stubborn idealism reinforced by courage and applied intelligence this is a book you must read.

Compelling and emotionally heart-wrenching

Think "Braveheart" and "The Patriot" with a better story than either and you will catch a glimpse of how profound this book is. Character development was as thorough as in any book I have read. The story is one of an undying faith that would not be quenched by any evil thrown against it. I walk away from this book examining my own faith and how I would respond to what the people of Rora faced. Joshua Gianavel is a historical figure that must be recognized and lauded as one of the truly great men of history. My fear is that the lack of political-correctness of this book (the war between Catholics and Protestants) will keep it from becoming a major motion picture, even though the story screams for that. I'll be thinking about this book for some time!

Great Story of a True Christian Hero

This was my first book by James Huggins (I bought it after reading Newt Gingrich's review) and I was not disappointed. I have studied church history in the past and am familiar with the Waldensians, whose story this is based on, but had never heard of Rora, or the hero, Joshua Gianavel.
One reviewer said that the characters are unbelievable, and I can see how someone would say this. So, I looked around for more on Joshua Gianavel and found accounts of his life and the story of Rora in Foxe's Book of Martyrs and Wylie's History of Protestantism. Suffice it to say, the true Gianavel was quite a guy.
This story is inspirational on several levels. It shows what one person can do against seemingly insurmountable odds and it gives a good demonstration of someone with the courage of their convictions.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good story, as I had a very hard time putting it down. It will also give some insight into the Waldensian movement and the Inquisition. But I believe it especially needs to be read by those in leadership, as Gianavel is one who truly was a great leader.
