The SSMC Reluctant (Platoon F) (Volume 1), by John P. Logsdon, Christopher P. Young

Mission 1 from the hilarious Platoon F comedy series

Lieutenant Orion Murphy is scheduled for execution due to a clerical error. His only out is to undergo a complete physical makeover, get a rank and name change, and agree to take over a new platoon in the Segnal Space Marine Corps (SSMC).

Seeing that it's a case of comply or die, he accepts the offer.

A week later, he finds himself standing on the bridge of The SSMC Reluctant with a misfit crew, an insane special agent, an antiquated robot mechanic, and his updated identity.

Will the newly-named Commodore Don Harr be able to get control of the ship and crew? Can they all survive their first mission, especially since they're not really supposed to? And who came up with this mission, anyway?

...it all makes Harr wonder if execution may have been the better option.

Readers and reviewers have compared the Platoon Fseries to the works of authors such as Harry Harrison, Douglas Adams, Robert Asprin, and John DeChancie. Fans of Bill, The Galactic Hero,The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, and Phule's Company will find a new, fun, comedic science fiction (SciFi) universe to play in. Space ships, space marines, robots, androids, technology, time travel, alien races, and good old-fashioned military quirks fill the pages of Platoon F.

Review
This one just sneaked up on me ... I kept laughing at the ridiculous situations our hero and his crew encountered. This is for readers who like slapstick, parody, stories that center on the eternal philosophical question, "How the heck did I get into this situation? And where's the door out?" -Joseph L. White

I haven't enjoyed a book this much since Phule's Company. Yep, it's silly, preposterous, and totally unbelievable. But it's a barrel of fun.-Paul M. Stone

Reminds me of Bill the Galactic Hero. Heaven' t laughed so much in a long time. It was a blast. -R. D. Braun

Just can't put it down...!
By Vee Susatijo
A quick yet evenly paced outer space read with a very catchy end-to-end storyline, sprinkled with the perfect amount of tongue-in-cheek wit to keep it light at all the right intervals. Very easy and entertaining read, with a steady amount of chuckles! Can't wait to read more of his work...

Highly recommended!

Lighthearted Escapist Sci-Fi
By Craig Thompson
I read this as a Kindle Unlimited item so I'm not sure if it will show up as a "verified purchase" or not.
Light hearted science fiction derivative of the cartoon show "Futurama". Liked it enough to buy the "Pentology" ASIN: B00MJ01C92 which is a collection of the first five books in the series. Made sense economically (only $2.99 for the Kindle version, a savings of $1.96 compared to the cumulative cost of the books if bought individually). Hopefully the deal isn't because the author knows you will be tired of the series before you even make it to book 4!,

Only real criticism is the author tends to run some comedic themes into the ground (such as Admiral Parfait's taste in "romance"). . . Still for light hearted mindless entertainment it rocks (more like Huey Lewis Rock though, not Led Zeppelin's)

I love this kind of 'goofy' sci-fi...

I have a low tolerance for proofreading mistakes, and there are a couple ... maybe three ... in the text. It is a mark of how much I enjoyed the characters that I read right through them and didn't really care. Will be following this series.
