'I' now have a better idea of SEO

Well written. I practically had no idea what was SEO, well I did think it had something to do with improving site ranking, but I didn't really have a 'good' or in depth understanding. From the intro of this book, I was hooked. What I mean is, now I really understand what this whole SEO thing is. The intro has been shortened (as mentioned in the book) to give a brief but also understandable definition of the terms and procedures in SEO.
Such as -
Hats - black, white grey
Off page and On page optimization

Plus there are a lot of details on how to 'improve' various aspects of the website to get maximum SEO, social media, writing content etc.
Then again, there is also a bad side to this, i.e. there is always a chance that the optimization for our website can fail due to certain reasons (which are defined clearly here)

This is a solid resource on SEO optimization!! I did a lot of research before finally settling on this book and It's thoroughly researched and well put together and the author makes complicated concepts easy to understanda and He also touches on advanced tactics so experienced readers will walk away with at least a handful of new tactics and does this while making it fun, it feels like you have a good friend explaining the whole process and I've seen lots of businesses do well with SEO and I've seen lots of businesses struggle because they don't understand SEO and neither does their SEO guy, so I think it's important to get the right knowledge and don't let this book get into the hands of your competitors so buy this book and grow your business to the next level.

Stunningly Brilliant

This is a work of such stunning brilliance that it has sent me out to look for the rest of Huggins' writing. He takes the few known facts about the battle between the Waldenses' and the Inquisition's determination to exterminate them and turns those facts into a novel of remarkable wisdom and insight. The Waldenses were Protestants marked for extermination by the Inquisition in 1655. Those Waldenses, unlucky enough to be living in relatively accessible country were massacred (about 6,000). The last refuge was a mountain valley of enormous difficulty to attack with only three easily defended points of access. About 150 men fought off 26,000 for weeks and cost the Piedmont Army about 12,000 casualties before being overrun. Even when their valley was overrun the remaining men hid in the caves of the mountains and continued the war.
The extraordinary military leader of this campaign was a mountain man named Joshua Gianavel. His wife and three daughters were burned at the stake when he refused to surrender (he and they would have been killed anyway if he had surrendered) and when he crossed the Alps to take his young son (the only surviving member of his family) to Geneva for safekeeping another 300 men volunteered to fight at his side. Ultimately they defeated the Piedmont Army in a campaign of extraordinary brilliance.
Huggins captures the essence of leadership. One follower observes: "In such a situation a man makes a decision by what he has brought to the battle, by what he decided within himself long before the first blow was thrown. Men do not become heroes in a war; they are heroes before a war. War is only the place where their heroism is easily seen." If you would care to understand how history can be made by stubborn idealism reinforced by courage and applied intelligence this is a book you must read.

Compelling and emotionally heart-wrenching

Think "Braveheart" and "The Patriot" with a better story than either and you will catch a glimpse of how profound this book is. Character development was as thorough as in any book I have read. The story is one of an undying faith that would not be quenched by any evil thrown against it. I walk away from this book examining my own faith and how I would respond to what the people of Rora faced. Joshua Gianavel is a historical figure that must be recognized and lauded as one of the truly great men of history. My fear is that the lack of political-correctness of this book (the war between Catholics and Protestants) will keep it from becoming a major motion picture, even though the story screams for that. I'll be thinking about this book for some time!

Great Story of a True Christian Hero

This was my first book by James Huggins (I bought it after reading Newt Gingrich's review) and I was not disappointed. I have studied church history in the past and am familiar with the Waldensians, whose story this is based on, but had never heard of Rora, or the hero, Joshua Gianavel.
One reviewer said that the characters are unbelievable, and I can see how someone would say this. So, I looked around for more on Joshua Gianavel and found accounts of his life and the story of Rora in Foxe's Book of Martyrs and Wylie's History of Protestantism. Suffice it to say, the true Gianavel was quite a guy.
This story is inspirational on several levels. It shows what one person can do against seemingly insurmountable odds and it gives a good demonstration of someone with the courage of their convictions.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good story, as I had a very hard time putting it down. It will also give some insight into the Waldensian movement and the Inquisition. But I believe it especially needs to be read by those in leadership, as Gianavel is one who truly was a great leader.

For boys who love wrestling

This book is a quick read at a short 104 pages it's actually a novella. The dialogue is kind of cornball but realistic from the mouths of boys and yet the book is encouraging for boys who love to wrestle. It shows TJ building up his confidence to defeat Rourke Everson to local bully though the story needed to be much longer than it is, the chapters seem rushed and the author wants to seem to get to the end. The sweetest chapter comes when TJ and his fellow wrestlers teach six year old boys the fun in wrestling and how it builds character and sportsmanship between TJ and his friends. Had it been longer with more story and more descriptions of the wrestling matches it could've rated 5 stars.

The Zohar, which dates back to the second century B.C.E., offers tools for doing the work of kabbalah: "transforming chaos and fragmentation into unity and completion." The Zohar's biblical commentaries and rabbinical stories of apparently "surprise happenings, sudden insights, and full-blown epiphanies" are intended to help readers open themselves to similar revelations. Berg, the dean and director of the Kabbalah Centre, writes accessibly about the Zohar, a free-flowing mystical commentary on the Bible, as a way people can tap into cosmic energies that are available for personal and universal salvation. For this to happen, however, the reader must believe that the Bible is a literal history of real personalities and, on the other hand, accept claims that Cham castrated his father, Noah, or that the "biblical golden calf could walk, talk, dance, and even change its shape" midrashic assertions that are not in the Bible. Berg's introduction to the Zohar is often insightful, noting, for example, that awe can be the beginning of wisdom in a world distracted by the "golden calves" of computers and cars. But there are also risks. Although "analyzing" a book on the Zohar is a contradiction in terms, this commentary can be disorganized and illogical. Berg admits that people may be uncomfortable with the notion that we can use "whatever means... necessary to create the spiritual circuitry of our universe," especially if that explains such misdeeds as King David murdering Uriah so he could take Batsheva as his wife. But comforting the reader is not the goal here; Berg succeeds in providing readable access to an esoteric Jewish mystical text. Whether he has also established that "only through Kabbalah will we forever eliminate war, destruction and man's inhumanity to his fellow man" is not so clear.

An Excellent Source Of Information

If I could rate this title with 10 stars I would. This book is amazing. I've never felt the need to write a review before but I believe that this title is deserving of my first.
The explanation of the tree of life alone, is reason enough to purchase this title. I own many different Kaballahs and I understand the material within them, but some of the concepts always seemed rather vauge until I read this book. This book has explained the material to me in a way that I didn't think was possible. It was as if the author took the time to hold the readers hand. Everything is explained in a clear and consise manner. This title is definatly worth a look.

Rav Berg is the best teacher of spiritual concepts in a day to day language, and this book is the best simple explanation of passages of the Zohar yet. If one wants to really know what Kabbalah is about, this is a MUST.

The most impactful book on kabbalah

This is the most clear and consise book that I have ever read on the Zohar. It is now very clear to me how and why to use the Zohar to better my life. I loved reading this book. I feel that it has changed my life in such a profound way. Something that I have been looking for for such a long time is now accessible. The invaluable wisdom of this book has already helped me to remove a lot of the chaos I have been experiencing until now. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who has any questions about life.

A Wise and Beautifully Written Novel

This is an excellent book if one wants to get some idea of what it was like to be one of the victims of the Khmer Rouge insanity in Cambodia. Vaddey Ratner is a skillful writer, who has an important experience to relate. It would be comforting to think that stories such as she tells would make it less likely for such atrocities to occur in the future. Unfortunately, history has demonstrated that such histories are incapable of teaching those who need to be taught. Pol Pot was educated in France, and presumably was aware of the Reign of Terror. And rather than learning from it, apparently thought it was a good idea and adopted it in his own country.

At least one person gave this book a poor review because it was written by a princess, one of the class who inherited their wealth, did nothing to improve the quality of life for their subjects, yet insisted upon being called “Highness.” Contrary to Ayn Rand, these are not the Atlases of society, but rather the sort of people that make irruptions of social chaos more-or-less inevitable. However, rich people aren’t usually evil, just complacent, and incapable of understanding that their wealth is a matter of privileged circumstances rather than something they have earned and deserve. However, this does not apply to Vaddey Ratner. She has her Grandmother Queen suggest that it was their karma, and her mother admit that “this Revolution was an old blaze reignited, possibly centuries of injustice manifesting itself like a raging inferno.” Social stratification makes a society ripe for the sociopathic element to emerge and stage a revolution. It takes very little sophistication to use a machine gun, and ruthless leaders can easily manipulate people by capitalizing upon their sense of social injustice. It is indeed odd that people are so easily manipulated by ignorant evil. Successful social revolutions need to be more like evolution than war, but this requires wisdom from the enlightened members of society.

Unfortunately, in present day Cambodia, very little has been learned. Workers are murdered when they strike for a living wage. Many of the most attractive young women, who have little chance at getting an education, turn to selling sex rather than submitting to the worse indignity of factory work.

Beautifully Written Story!

In the lyrical and poetic novel, Vaddey Ratner offers a glimpse of her life during the Khmer take over when she was all of five years old. As Raami in the novel, Vaddey Ratner is a descendant of Cambodian royalty, her father, (the deceased) Prince Sisowath Ayuravann.

On April 17, 1975, the Khmer Rouge, an army of ruthless thugs, entered Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, and put an end to life as Cambodians knew it. Declaring a new government, the revolutionaries killed government officials, government personnel, and others connected with the government. The black uniformed Khmers killed any civilian who opposed their dictates and in the process, set out their plan to relocate and re-educate the population under the communist dictatorship of Pol Pot.

She was five in 1975 when her family, along with all others in the cities of Cambodia, was ejected from their home and forced at gunpoint by the Khmer Rouge into a four year march back and forth across the countryside with only the possessions they could carry. It was a mass exodus and migration of people going nowhere. These people, including the young children, were used as slave labor by the Revolutionaries, starved, often separated from family members, beaten, sometimes arbitrarily executed.

That being said, I didn't find the novel to be maudlin. Some people said it brought them to tears. That was not the case for me and I'm normally pretty weepy. I found Vaddey Ratner to be an exceptional writer. Her writing is a combination of beautiful prose interspersed with events that were horrible and tragic but Ratner did not exploit the violence with graphic descriptions. I think because she didn't, I was able to absorb what little Raami (Vaddey) saw and felt without the complication of my own emotions. Don't shy away from reading this because you think it will be depressing. It is actually quite hopeful as written. Yes, people are randomly shot, Raami ate a lot of bugs and secretly nibbled raw rice as she was working, she watched executions, most of her family died - but she survives, and not entirely alone - I won't spoil it for you. The book is actually filled with tremendous love from beginning to end and is beautifully written. You should read it.

Okay, Not Innovative

I read through this book twice as part of a pre-launch "team" set up by Pat and a collaborator of his.

The kid anecdotes were kind of too "squishy-warm" for me. They almost alienated me. They may touch base with others who are motivated by wanting to spend more time watching their kids grow and develop or being at home with the wife and family more, but they made me, a non-father, non-family man, feeling kind of left out. My motivations for doing what Pat suggests are quite different. If you have kids or want to spend more time with the family, then you may connect with the anecdotes. I did not, found most of them over-explained and in need of editing.

On the other hand, some of what he relates concerning his experience in the "office" world, as well as some of his experience with his own growing business were somewhat "inspiring". Funny how the one that best stuck in my mind came from a rather unpleasant-sounding boss he had had-- funny because, in the end, those of us who would want to read this kind of book would be doing so to get away from just that type of boss.

When the book finally gets to the exercises, these are pretty basic pedagogy. I found a couple of them kind of 1980s "new age", others were almost infantile, all of them are valid and can be valuable to those new to getting themselves organized (especially useful will be the material on using spread sheets to keep track of research done); however, for those who already know how to organize themselves, how to set attainable objectives and program those objectives into the larger goals they wish to achieve, you will find yourself skipping over activities suggested in the book and perhaps wondering if it was worth the $15 it cost you.

The language is easy to read, sounds like Internet "8th grade level" content writing, the bane of blogs, left me feeling I was being talked down to, as if I could not possibly understand a word with more than three syllables. Unfortunately, this is the expected these days and I am not blaming the author for "keeping it simple", just pointing out that if you're looking for sophisticated information, this book is not going to be the source. It's meant to walk general readers through a process, with an easily understood metaphor (that paper airplane) backed up by the cute, heart-warming story of being a good father to a small boy. Again, squishy-warm.

I haven't seen the "linked" version, but if it is true what other critiques have mentioned, well, uggh. The exercises are hands-on and over-linking is becoming another Internet "sin" (along with that 8th grade level lore content writers not only believe but practice). Another aspect mentioned by other critiques is the feeling that the book needed a "cooling off" period.... I believe it should have been set aside for a couple of months and then thoroughly edited to shave off some of the chaff, tighten up the narrative and add a bit of sophistication that, for me, it lacks.

I've followed Mr Flynn for about a year, have used some of his ideas myself and found them valid. This book, though, is not the best of Pat Flynn. I was disappointed by the pre-launch activity, way too much use of the word "great", suggestions of buying a book I'd already read twice, suggestions of buying several copies of it, feeling, once more, alienated when offering criticism instead of oozing excitement and praise in an almost blind, following way. That so many have given this book five stars kind of shows that same. This is not a five-star book. It's okay, it can be useful, even inspirational (if you've got kids!), but it's not the cat's meow.

Honest review on an advance copy

I am a regular listener of Pat Flynn's podcast and consumer of his blog content. I find all of that material to be outstanding and immediately useful, so I expected to find a similar level of content here.

Sadly, this didn't live up to my expectations. I found that much of the advice in this book was geared toward an entrepreneur launching a physical product. I have two service-oriented businesses, and I didn't feel motivated to follow through on the book's "assignments" as I typically do with Pat's content.

I was also turned off by the number of links in the copy. I find it to be distracting to have to link to further content that could just as easily be in the book.

And finally, I thought the writing needed to be stronger. The product felt rushed, as though the book was being pushed to launch at the expense of building out content and working with a strong editor to make it a better book.

I still highly value Pat Flynn and am very grateful for the opportunity to read the book. I intended to purchase the book after reading the advance copy, but I don't think I would ever use it again. I'll pay Pat back for all of his other great work in some other way.

great starting point for any budding online entrepreneur

anyone looking to start an online business should buy this book, do the exercises in it, and save yourself a lot of wasted time, energy, and resources down the road.

the strength of this book is that it is very practical. it provides step-by-step exercises to help you brainstorm ideas, narrow them down, and validate them. it's not just the why and what, but the how as well. the exercises are terrific and extremely insightful. and i like that pat does them alongside us. it was helpful to see how he processed things.

the book reminds me of an "art lessons for non artists" class i took once where the instructor gave us simple steps (e.g., paint the top section blue, draw some dark vertical lines here, etc.) and the next thing you know i've got a couple walking through the forest in the rain. impressive for a guy whose previous specialty was stick figures.

what i like is that anybody (regardless of business experience) can walk away from the book confident they have a viable business idea people are willing to pay for.

who is this book for?

- you're a budding entrepreneur looking to start your first online business
- you have ten ideas in your head but don't now which to focus on
- you suffer from paralysis by analysis (like myself)
- you want to be confident people will pay for your idea

who is this book not for?

- you're not ready to do the work (certain exercises will require a lot of hustle on your part)
- you're well read in the "how to start an online business space" (while some of the exercises are unique, you'll probably have read most of what pat shares already)
- you're an experienced online entrepreneur with at least two successful businesses (this book is more for newbies)

i highly recommend any new entrepreneur read this book. you will find few online entrepreneurs with as much experience as pat flynn. if you're going to start an online business, there's no better person to learn from than pat.

Excellent Book for Precalculus

I used this book for several students I tutored in both Honors and Regular Precalculus. The book has plenty of clear examples in each section with practice problems. The illustrations are useful in helping understand difficult concepts such as Polar Coordinates, Conic Sections, Polar Coordinates of Conic Sections, Vectors, Trigonometry. The only weakness may be it's coverage of probability, but the Algebra 2 Glencoe book covers it very well. The examples and challenge problems in each section are great for the Honors level students needing more challenge.
