Embodies several invaluable messages for young people

Howard B. Wigglebottom Listens to His Heart is a children's picturebook that embodies several invaluable messages for young people. When young rabbit Howard B. Wigglebottom is mocked by his peers for dancing, he decides he will never dance again. But when he confides his sadness to his grandfather, his grandfather reminds him that he comes from a long line of Wigglebottoms who love to dance. Howard's grandfather teaches him that he should dance because it's fun and he loves it first and foremost! A list of suggestions for lessons or reflection and the end of the book go over the central themes of feeling something one's heart, the value of confiding in a trusted older person, issues that can affect self-esteem, the value of trying something different for the fun of it, and the benefit of connecting with one's roots and family legacy. Perhaps the most important message is to "Be proud of who you are!" Highly recommended for public library collections as well as for children's bookshelves.

Ashamed of being made a fool
He felt his ego chill

He wanted to be debonair
He wanted to belong
Alas, alack, to his despair
Things kept on going wrong

This book shows that even though
Things may not look too bright
A friend can be the one to show
You how to make things right

Do your best, hold your head high
Be proud, at least you've tried
In time you'll find the reason why
You feel so good inside

This is a follow up to the book Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen, and deals with an issue that affects every child at one time or another. Told in simple language with beautiful illustrations, this is a must read for any child experiencing a period of self-doubt. Recommended for ages 7 and up.

Tsuji was deeply involved in Japanese atrocities throughout the war. He evaded prosecution for war crimes at the end of the war, living in hiding in Thailand. He returned to Japan in 1949 and was elected to the Diet as an advocate of renewed militarism. Tsuji was among the most aggressive and influential Japanese militarists. He incited the 1939 border clash with the USSR, and was a vehement advocate of war with the United States. In 1961, he disappeared on a trip to Laos.

Excellent out-of-print book by one of the planners of the Imperial Japanese Army's invasion of Malaya and the capture of Singapore. Colonel Tsuji w as truly a brilliant planner. He had a very unusual career. Read it if you can find it!

This is a super book about the care of the trauma patient. At the top of the list in trauma work there is LAC-USC med center and then every other hospital follows behind. Dr. Demetriades does a great job condensing alot of critical information into a very readable format.

About the Author

Patricia A. Wieland Ladewig received her BS from the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota; her MSN from Catholic University of America in Washington, DC; and her PhD in higher education administration from the University of Denver in Colorado. She served as an Air Force nurse and discovered her passion for teaching as a faculty member at Florida State University. Over the years, she has taught at several schools of nursing. In addition, she became a women’s health nurse practitioner and maintained a part-time clinical practice for many years. In 1988, Dr. Ladewig became the first director of the nursing program at Regis College in Denver. In 1991, when the college became Regis University, she became academic dean of the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions. Under her guidance, the School of Nursing added a graduate program. In addition, the college added a School of Physical Therapy and a School of Pharmacy. In 2009 Dr. Ladewig became the Chief Academic Officer at Regis University. She retired from the position in 2016. She and her husband, Tim, enjoy skiing, baseball games, and traveling. However, their greatest pleasure comes from their family: son Ryan, his wife Amanda, and grandchildren Reed and Addison; and son Erik, his wife Kedri, and grandchildren Emma and Camden.

Marcia L. London received her BSN and School Nurse Certificate from Plattsburgh State University in Plattsburgh, New York, and her MSN in pediatrics as a clinical nurse specialist from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. She worked as a pediatric nurse and began her teaching career at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital Affiliate Program. Mrs. London began teaching at Beth-El School of Nursing and Health Science in 1974 (now part of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs) after opening the first intensive care nursery at Memorial Hospital of Colorado Springs. She has served in many faculty positions at Beth-El, including assistant director of the School of Nursing. Mrs. London obtained her postmaster’s Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certificate in 1983 and subsequently developed the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) certificate and the master’s NNP program at Beth-El. She is active nationally in neonatal nursing and was involved in the development of National Neonatal Nurse Practitioner educational program guidelines. Mrs. London pursued her interest in college student learning by taking doctoral classes in higher education administration and adult learning at the University of Denver in Colorado. She feels fortunate to be involved in the education of her future colleagues and teaches undergraduate education. Mrs. London and her husband, David, enjoy reading, travel, and hockey games. They have two sons. Craig, who lives in Florida with his wife, Jennifer, and daughter Hannah, works with Internet companies. Matthew works in computer teleresearch. Both are more than willing to give Mom helpful hints about computers.

Michele R. Davidson completed her ADN degree from Marymount University and worked in multiple women’s health specialty areas including postpartum, newborn nursery, high-risk nursery, labor and delivery, reproductive endocrinology, gynecology medical-surgical, and oncology units as a registered nurse while obtaining a BSN from George Mason University.  Dr. Davidson earned her MSN and a nurse-midwifery certificate at Case Western Reserve University and continued to work as a full-scope nurse-midwife for 16 years. She has delivered over 1,000 babies during her career as a nurse-midwife. She completed her PhD in nursing administration and healthcare policy at George Mason University (GMU) and began teaching at GMU in 1999 while continuing in her role as a nurse- midwife. Dr. Davidson serves as the Coordinator for the PhD program in the School of Nursing. She has an interest in women’s mental health and focuses her research on perinatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.  Dr. Davidson also has an interest in the care of individuals with disabilities; she serves as a member of the Loudoun County Disability Advisory Committee and is a disability advocate in her community. She was a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council, the body that writes the national certification examination for certified nurse-midwives. She is a member of numerous editorial and advisory boards and has a passion for writing.  In 2000, Dr. Davidson developed an immersion clinical experience for GMU students on a remote island in the Chesapeake Bay. In 2003, she founded the Smith Island Foundation, a nonprofit organization in which she served as executive director for eight years. Dr. Davidson has also completed certifications in lactation consulting, forensic nursing, and surgical first assistant.  In 2012, her book, A Nurse’s Guide to Women’s Mental Health, won an American Journal of Nursing Book Award. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her mother, writing, gardening, Internet surfing, and spending time on Smith Island with her nurse-practitioner husband, Nathan, and their four active children, Hayden, Chloe, Caroline, and Grant.  Dr. Davidson and her family love the Eastern Shore of Maryland and continue to be part-time residents of Smith Island.

Very Informative Book

Being able to get this on kindle saved my life bc I needed this to be able to start my clinical rotations. The book is awesome and has a plethora of information.
The only reason I subtracted a star is because I don't really use it much, and that's mostly based on the classroom material and the teachers. The book is extremely helpful and well written.

I'm in my maternity rotation now and this book really put me at ease (I'm a male nursing student going into OB >_

This is no mean task, because the Greek and Roman public conversations generally steered clear of the subject. Great college philosophy text

I use this as a required reading in my 100-level philosophy course. I love how it appeals to and gives excerpts from original sources (i.e. Aristotle, the stoics, Augustine, etc.) and then also breaks down and explains these original sources. While these readings are sometimes challenging for first-time philosophy students, with class discussion I think this is a great beginner source. The presentation of slavery from an ancient and historical perspective is so important if we really want to understand what has led to the perpetuation of slavery throughout history, and is important in the consideration of what continues to sustain modern slavery. I will be using this text again this fall for the third semester in a row, and I plan to continue using this text as long as I teach my current course on philosophical ideas of slavery.

This book is a revised and extended version of the W.B. Stamford Lectures given by Dr. Peter Garnsey at Trinity College Dublin in 1995. The author examines ancient Greece and Rome and categorizes his "ideas" of slavery into two large divisions: Attitudes to slavery, and Theories of slavery. The first part, dealing with "attitudes" to slavery, range from critique to justification of the subject. The second part examines the "theories" of Aristotle, the Stoics, Theologians Philo and Paul, Church Fathers Ambrose and Augustine, and others. The author draws his conclusion from these philosophers' own writings and therefore is commended on his excellent research.
The author finds that there was no major movement for abolition in these societies, unlike antebellum America, but one should not conclude that slavery was accepted all together. The problem with this analysis is that a majority of the Roman and Greek societies do not excuse or condemn the subjection of other human beings. In reality, any abolition to slavery was kept private or generally ignored.
Slavery is not an idea but rather a judgment that we are human beings and slaves are not. One can see that our own century has witnessed the terrible consequences of dehumanizing other human beings. An opportunity to compare ancient slavery to modern slavery is completely ignored by the author and for good reason, simply because it would have required an entire different section. In conclusion, the "why" is left for us to contemplate, yet one of Garnsey's achievements is that the thought behind or concerning this matter is so clearly revealed in this book.

Well worth the money if you have the advanced knowledge

If you are looking for an introduction to slavery in the ancient world, do not get this book. To fully understand and use this book, one must not only be knowledgeable of the ancient world but also have a pretty good grasp of the many authors Garnsey looks at. Instead of trying to make some grand generalization about slavery in the Greco-Roman world, this book tries to look at individuals and different "schools of thought" in the ancient world. The result is a nice journey through several ancient texts. However, Garnsey does have an agenda and an opinion: slavery is bad, and even ancients questioned it. The second is true, the first is debatable especially in the ancient world.

This publication is a great resource for fabricators at all levels. I am an educator and teach fabrication , this publication is a great resource and the clarity on the building of these bikes draws the reader right into the build itself. The selection of the different builds makes this book interesting to fabricators at all levels. Good stuff!!

Custom fabrication is an art and a science. Do not expect this book to take you from metal work hack to fabricator extraordinaire, but it does go through the basics of fab work. It lacks the process methodology and finer points in how to use the tools and equipment to achieve results, but nonetheless it has very good photo's and will give you a good idea as to the direction you should take and or how to achieve the types of metal work fabrication ideas into reality.

This book provides a great combination of pictures and step-by-step instructions for building custom motorcycles. It's a great place to start for someone researching how to build a motorcycle himself.
