Very cheaply made. Recycled paper, very flimsy. ...

Very cheaply made. Recycled paper, very flimsy. Ordered twice and both items came all bent up. Just got a refund and ordered the Kindle version. Gave up on getting a quality hard copy. Also, because law school requires a lot of highlighting, I wondered how the thin, light brown recycled pages would react to heavy highlighting.

About the Author

Dr. Adelson received his M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees at The Ohio State University.� Before concentrating on teaching, Dr. Adelson worked for 13 years in X-ray and neutron diffraction and in X-ray spectroscopy at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio.

After assisting a former Ohio State Physics Department Chair in managing the calculus-based course for science and engineering majors, and similarly assisting a former vice chair in a summer course for teaching assistants on teaching physics, Dr. Adelson taught the Ohio State summer course for many years and still continues as manager of the calculus-based introductory courses. After teaching short summer courses for minority students in the 1980s, he became concerned with the deficits in preparation of all non-traditional students. In 1989, he then started a “Preparation for Physics” course, which is still offered at Ohio State University.�

Dr. Adelson has followed the progress of Physics Education Research since its early years. He has co-taught with Alan Van Heuvelen in consultation with Eugenia Etkina, been fortunate in visiting and observing Lillian McDermott’s Physics Education group at the University of Washington, has worked together with Leonard Jossem at Ohio State University, and has attended almost all Physics Education workshops given at American Association of Physics Teachers meetings. He has given many talks documenting the progress of the Preparation for Physics course at AAPT meetings.

Ready for physics

I bought this book for an intro physics class that I will be starting in a month. I recently graduated from college and am returning to school to take a few classes before I apply to graduate school. I haven't had any math classes in over 4 years and I feel that this book has been a huge help in getting me prepared for taking the class. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a "refresher" before beginning any intro-level physics class.

About the Author
Anna Hess dreamed about moving back to the land ever since her parents dragged her off their family farm at the age of eight. She worked as a field biologist and nonprofit organizer before acquiring fifty-eight acres and a husband, then quit her job to homestead full time. She admits that real farm life involves a lot more hard work than her childhood memories entailed, but the reality is much more fulfilling and she loves pigging out on sun-warmed strawberries and experimenting with no-till gardening, mushroom propagation, and chicken pasturing.

Good Summary

In this really good short summary, you get pretty much everything you needed to know about Green Manures aka cover crops. This is a book for hobbyists, yardeners, and backyard farmers, and perhaps a good review of the topic for professionals. However if you are looking for a painfully detailed chemical analysis of the soil, or an in depth soil science book to put you to sleep, please look else where. This has all of the practical information you need to be able to understand and use cover crops, nothing else. The book is accessible for the layman (or woman) and with almost 30 years of gardening experience and 4 years of professional experience working on development projects in the third world, I can say this is the best book written on the subject I have read so far. You will not be disappointed in this book if you want a quick read giving you only the essential information on the topic. My hat comes off to Anna Hess for writing this spectacular book.

excellent information on a niche subject

It can be difficult to find information on cover crops that focuses on not tilling your soil, which is something I'm not willing nor interested in doing for our first garden on our new farm. We have heavy clay content in our rocky soil, and I discovered right away with a small test garden that digging to incorporate organic matter and nutrients was laborious and inefficient (not to mention, back breaking). Nearby neighbors have tractors and tilled gardens, and I'm sure I could sweet talk one into plowing up a garden spot for us, but I don't want to rely on that and am trying to focus on permaculture practices instead. That being said, I need a way to bring organic matter in other than simply trucking in pre-blended soil for my raised beds from the closest source, which is over an hour away and can also get very expensive. Homegrown Humus addresses this need perfectly and gave me both the background information I craved to understand how cover crops work as well as ideas and solid information on actual implementation. The author writes in both an easy and fun to understand style that will wet your appetite for her other excellent e-books that address a variety of permaculture and homesteading related projects. Very pleased with this selection and will be referring back to it as needed during the upcoming gardening season.

No nonsense book for improving soil tilthe

Although short, this is a very good primer on getting started growing your own mulch year round in the garden. Much of the US once had as much as nine feet of topsoil. Many areas now have less than an inch or two. Following the author's simple suggestions will have your soil organic content increasing over time. If you are outside of zone 6 you will have to experiment with the cover crop species some, which the author points out, but she provides a couple of resources to explore for ideas as well as the thought process for how to make your selections. A thought provoking read.

A Safari into the Wilds of College Drinking

The book recognizes and clearly articulates the complexity of values and behaviors in the college binge-drinking world. Authentic voices of students narrating their experiences. "Take care of each other" both recognizes the serious dangers in getting drunk and advocates a caring and protective response to friends and potential vIctims in the drinking culture that can indirectly mitigate the extreme harms that occur, from rape to death by alcohol poisoning. Campuses will benefit by informing their students of the ideas and narratives in this book, and by designing educational programs of intervention by students for students.

Worth reading, thinking about, acting upon

Public perceptions of college student alcohol consumption are often distorted by sensationalistic stories in the popular media: we hear on the news that an honor student dies of alcohol poisoning or a coed falls from a dormitory window after a campus party and believe that such events are common and are left unable to make sense of them. They are blurred as well by social scientific studies that abstract individuals from their social contexts and offer analyses that are not really "social" at all and therefore do not help us to understand what is essentially a group process: we read research findings that announce nearly half of all college students are "binge drinkers" and are astounded and worried, despite not knowing what "binge drinking" means; and so we share the widespread belief that binge drinking is an altogether new, altogether dangerous, college-based phenomenon, and we're quick to support campus and community efforts to crack down on the college drinkers, if only for their own good. Declare the campus dry (even if such a thing is an impossibility), train the resident advisors to ferret out the scofflaws (even while knowing that the cooperation of their dorm mates rests upon leniency on this matter), send the police or college representatives into nearby student housing (regardless of shared values concerning the sanctity of one's home), ask representatives of social clubs, like the Kiwanis, to sit in their parked cars outside beer stores to deter underage college students from getting the alcohol in the first place (despite the impracticality -or silliness - of such an effort). What are we to do about the real problems associated with excessive college student drinking when we are inundated with attention-grabbing media reports and inexplicable survey findings designed to generate ratings in the first instance or a shot at tenure in the second? My advice is to begin by reading Thomas Vander Ven's Getting Wasted.

This book gave me a better understanding of students entering college and leaving home for the first time. In the book a person gets a better understanding of the challenges these young adults face and have to deal with being away from their families for the first time.

When Kristie comes home from college, the last thing she expects is her world to be turned upside down by the appearance of a handsome, gruff stranger, Gray. He is the head of a biker gang in town called the Devil’s Advocates.

Kristie’s mom asks if she can befriend Gray in hopes of getting him on the straight and narrow. The plan backfires, however, as Kristie finds herself falling for Gray. Is it possible he feels the same way? The connection between them threatens to tear down everything Kristie has ever held dear.

The more she falls for Gray, the more messy things get. As Gray gets yanked further and further into the world of his gang, Kristie finds herself having to make a choice: stay on her own path or risk everything to be with Gray. Will she be able to make it out unscathed?

Book 2

Kristie has finally graduated from college. With a new boyfriend in tow, Gray’s rival, Armand, and moving back into her mother’s house, it feels as if life might finally fall back into place. But Gray, the love of her life and her cousin by marriage, happens to return after hiding out of town. He’s been freed of being suspected of a murder he didn’t commit and is now looking to reclaim glory in his gang, the Devil’s Advocates, once again.

But both Kristie and Gray are in for surprises. People aren’t always what they seem. Kristie struggles to work through her relationship problems with Armand while Gray struggles to fall back into a position of power in the life he left behind. As the two of them are drawn closer together, both must choose the life they want – with each other, or alone. No matter what they end up picking, the risks in their lives can end up costing the two of them everything.

Book 3

It’s been six months since Kristie was taken down in a gun fight related to her husband’s gang activity. Kristie finds herself struggling to get over the traumatic incident to move on with her life. She only wants one thing now – a child to call her own.

Despite Gray’s promise to leave the gang behind, he finds himself searching for Armand and a way to take out the Infernos. Kristie protests, saying that she wants to forget about it and start a new life together. But Gray cannot let go of the fact that Armand almost killed his wife.

Kristie and Gray find themselves losing sense of their relationship. Kristie is unable to conceive and feels as if she is failing Gray. Meanwhile, Gray throws himself into the Devil’s Advocates.

The cycle of violence continues but this time the stakes might be too high and the price to pay might only be one of blood.

Book 4

When Kristie discovers she is pregnant after thinking she cannot conceive, her world is flipped even more upside down. Her best friend had just been gunned down in a gang related shooting and her husband, Gray, is in a battle for his life with a rival gang.

Kristie finds herself juggling her pregnancy and the daughter she had adopted from her best friend. She finds herself being dragged into the dark world of the gang war against her bidding and must find a way to survive with her children.

Gray has a plan to get their happily-ever-after life but it is risky. He isn’t sure if it will pay off or not. With different cards to play and different people to keep wrapped around his finger, Gray puts everything at stake to get rid of Armand.

But Armand won’t go quietly. As the fighting continues, Kristie and Gray realize that everything is at stake.

Love this series!!!!!

Having read some MC books before I was expecting it to be fairly predictable but as soon as I started reading this series I knew it was different to other books.While other MC series involve the female interest getting immersed into club life this series took the opposite approach where she wanted nothing to do with it, in switching perspectives of the book Carla Coxwell has changed what could've been a predictable plot to a plot that focuses on human struggles.
What I like most about this series is that we as the reader get to see the other side of the coin in how Gray struggles to leave his former life and look after Kristie as well, the struggles that the couple goes through as individuals and together was what made me keep on reading this series because like most readers I was waiting for that HEA and thankfully it came in the end.

Loved reading this series!! It has all the ingredients for a great story love,danger, suspense, and a sexy motorcycle rider (just picture Charlie Hunnam a.k.a. Jax Teller and you can't go wrong!! Lol). In all seriousness I read a lot on here and I can tell you this is absolutely worth the read there are a few parts that I could have done without that I didn't feel the main character would have done(I don't want to give away spoilers) but it doesn't hurt the story at all!! I can't wait to read more from this author in the future for sure!!!

I have just started getting into MC romance novels when this one popped up as one I might liked. I read the first book and immediately liked the story of Gray and Kristie. It ended up taking a different path that I had expected but one I enjoyed. I ended up reading the whole series in just a few days. I don't like giving away any details of the books so I won't but I would recommend this series to all that like a little switch up.

About the Author
PARAS N. PRASAD, PhD, is the SUNY Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, and Medicine, the Samuel P. Capen Chair, and the Executive Director of the Institute for Lasers, Photonics, and Biophotonics at the University of Buffalo. Professor Prasad received his BS and MS at Bihar University in India, and his PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Michigan, and has been recognized as an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow and Guggenheim Fellow. Professor Prasad teaches biophotonics at the University of Buffalo and is also a special lecturer for biophotonics courses at the SPIE.

Decent book

This book provides a pretty good overview of imaging modalities in BME. At times it would feel more like a literature review as opposed to a learning textbook however.

Very superficial coverage, and my book is missing sections

When I recieved the book, everything seemed to be in order, and it was only when I tried to read chapter 4 (Fundamentals of Light-Matter Interaction, which some might argue, is quite important) that I discovered, this valuable chapter had been replaced by incoherent babble about statistical methods and linear algebra, that did not match the table of contents. Furthermore, it didn't have anything to do with biology, or photonics. I don't know if all of the books contain this misprint, but I wouldn't buy it from Amazon (at least check it when you get it so that you can return it if your's is screwed up!)

Furthermore, the book has many interesting topics, but each is covered in a very superficial way. Mathematical models are avoided almost totally, and the ocassional equations have no derivation. This could be a plus for some, but I feel like this book would not help anyone solve actually engineering problems in biophotonics. It was merely a collection of interesting summaries.

Like many introduction to optics books published by Wiley, this book is well organized and gives an excellent overview with some good illustrations (terrible representation of Optical Coherence Tomography). It is a good overview of many areas like bioimaging and biosensors. As a biological science graduate student, I found the few formulas easy to understand. FRET and FLIM should have been developed better. The web references are convenient.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to have a good overview on different biological optical applications.

About the Author
Robert N. Lussier is Professor of Management at Springfield College. Having taught management for more than 25 years, he has developed innovative and widely copied methods for applying concepts and developing skills that can be used personally and professionally. A prolific writer, Dr. Lussier has more than 350 publications to his credit, including other best selling textbooks (such as Management Fundaments: Concepts, Applications, Skill Development, also by South-Western/Cengage) and articles published in Academy of Entrepreneurship Journal, Business Horizons, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Small Business Management, Family Business Review, and Journal of Small Business Strategy and many others. After I have waited 3 1/2 weeks for this item to ship JudyPL cancelled the order. I had tried to make contact numerous times and only received an automated reply that said not yet shipped. I started class last week and have been getting by thinking that the book was on the way. Now I am back to square 1, not to mention have to wait to get my money back.

Received book in great shape. Only con was a wrinkle in the paperback cover. This book is pricey, but much cheaper than the school's book store prices! I recommend this seller!
